Contract Power BI Developer (SQL & MongoDB Integration Specialist)

JDL Access, LLC is a medical technology patient and payer access firm. We are seeking a contractor to help us build and structure reporting workflows within our SQL database environment and surface those insights through Power BI dashboards. You will work closely with our developer and operations teams to understand our reporting needs, develop robust SQL queries and data models, and deliver clear, actionable Power BI reports - all within a MongoDB-backed platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Report Translation: Replicate complex business logic and reporting structures currently housed in a relational SQL database into Power BI dashboards.
• Data Integration: Configure and optimize connections between MongoDB and Power BI using tools like the MongoDB BI Connector or CData drivers.
• ETL & Transformation: Use Power Query (M language) to clean, flatten, and transform nested JSON-like MongoDB structures into tabular formats suitable for reporting.
• DAX Development: Create advanced measures and calculated columns using DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to meet specific KPI requirements.
• Performance Tuning: Optimize SQL queries and Power BI data models to ensure high-speed report refreshing and low latency.
• Design and write optimized SQL queries and stored procedures to extract, transform, and aggregate data from our database layer
• Document data sources, query logic, and report definitions to support long-term maintainability after the engagement ends

Required Qualifications

• Technical Stack: Expert proficiency in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and SQL (T-SQL, PostgreSQL, or similar).
• MongoDB Experience: Proven experience connecting Power BI to MongoDB Atlas or on-premise instances.
• Data Modeling: Strong understanding of star schemas and relational vs. non-relational data structures.
• Documentation: Ability to document the data lineage and transformation steps for future maintenance.
