Property Management Accountant

About MDL Property Management MDL Property Management is a fast-growing property management company headquartered in Bay City, Michigan. We currently manage more than 900 residential units and are actively expanding. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Property Management Accountant with extensive AppFolio experience. The ideal candidate has managed accounting for a large residential property portfolio and understands both trust accounting and corporate accounting. This individual will work directly with ownership to build scalable accounting workflows, improve financial reporting, and help transition our corporate accounting into AppFolio.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily accounting within AppFolio
• Assist with transitioning corporate accounting from QuickBooks into AppFolio
• Maintain trust accounting compliance
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations
• Reconcile trust and operating accounts
• Record journal entries
• Prepare month-end financial statements
• Assist with owner distributions
• Maintain vendor records and payment workflows
• Review imported bank and debit card transactions
• Assign transactions to the proper:
• Property
• GL account
• Vendor
• Build and improve accounting workflows
• Help establish internal controls
• Assist with budgeting and cash flow reporting
• Work closely with company leadership to improve accounting operations

Qualifications

Required:

• 5+ years of property management accounting experience
• 3+ years using AppFolio
• Strong understanding of trust accounting
• Experience with bank reconciliations
• Strong knowledge of GAAP
• Excellent Excel skills
• Experience managing multiple entities

Preferred:

• Experience migrating accounting systems
• Experience moving corporate accounting into AppFolio
• Experience with portfolios exceeding 500 units
• CPA or accounting degree (preferred but not required)

Compensation

Competitive salary based on experience. Remote position with flexible scheduling. Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year Benefits:
