[Remote] Marketing Director (Remote)

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Good Roots is a remote team of accountants, consultants, and marketers working exclusively in food and agriculture. The Marketing Director leads the marketing practice, setting strategic direction, managing a team, and overseeing the execution of marketing services for clients in the farm and food business.

Responsibilities

  • Set the strategic vision and direction for Good Roots’ marketing practice; define service offerings, standards, and how the team delivers value to clients
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the Marketing Consultant(s); set performance goals, conduct reviews, support professional growth, and foster a culture of accountability and excellence
  • Continuously evolve the marketing service offerings based on client needs, industry trends, and team capacity; establish and uphold quality standards for deliverables, brand work, campaign execution, and client communication
  • Oversee all marketing projects; ensure consistency, quality, and impact on every engagement, project, and initiative
  • Lead high-stakes strategic engagements with clients—diagnosing business challenges, framing the marketing implications, designing roadmaps, and guiding executives and owners through key decisions
  • In collaboration with Client Relations; Scope new client engagements, align on pricing and levels of effort, design project plans, and oversee onboarding to set every engagement up for success
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard new marketing team members as the practice grows; forecast capacity and align team structure to client demand
  • Own the marketing practice area budget; monitor utilization, profitability, and growth metrics, and report results to firm leadership
  • Partner with Good Roots’ leadership and other practice area directors on shared clients, integrated service offerings, and firm-wide strategy
  • Represent Good Roots externally as the voice of the marketing practice through conferences, partnerships, written content, and community engagement

Skills

  • Proven senior-level expertise in marketing and management: Principles, theory, and application across all core competency areas—strategy, brand, content, digital, demand generation, and analytics
  • Minimum of five years of progressive marketing experience, with at least three years in a leadership or team management role
  • Tech Savvy: Highly proficient in Google Suite, Zoom, Slack, and project management software. Deep working knowledge of marketing platforms across automation/CRM (HubSpot, Mailchimp), analytics, CMS, paid media, SEO, and design tools
  • Process Improvement: Develop and maintain written procedures, trainings and other resources that capture approach and processes for executing on marketing services
  • Analytical: Fearlessly determined to dig into clients' marketing data, determine the appropriate courses of action in collaboration with team members, and educate clients on better processes appropriate for their level of understanding
  • Project Management: Capable of efficiently and decisively managing a multitude of client projects, team needs, and competing priorities
  • Project Design: Skilled in matching services to clients' needs and skills while supporting their continuous improvement and empowerment
  • Consultative Strategist: Highly capable of leading executive-level strategy conversations—framing business problems through a marketing lens, designing roadmaps, navigating ambiguity, and influencing decisions across complex client organizations
  • Management Functions: Well-versed in all core areas of management, including planning, organizing, staffing, accountability, and leadership
  • Emotionally Intelligent: Exemplary skills related to self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management
  • Experience in the farming and agriculture industry
  • Experience leading the growth of a marketing agency, consulting practice, or fractional CMO practice
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Deep expertise in both B2B and B2C marketing; relevant certifications (HubSpot, Google Ads, Google Analytics) preferred
  • Experience leading marketing engagements for mission-driven clients
  • Experience managing a practice area P&L, including capacity planning, pricing service offerings, and tracking utilization and profitability
