[Remote] Principal Engineer, Cloud Ops
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Iambic is a clinical-stage life-science and technology company developing novel medicines using its AI-driven discovery and development platform. The Principal Engineer, Cloud Ops will support and drive the Cloud Ops roadmap, providing technical leadership, designing scalable AWS cloud infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with ISO 27001. This role also involves mentoring engineers and improving operational maturity across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Support and contribute to the Cloud Ops roadmap, aligning infrastructure initiatives with business priorities
- Provide technical leadership and drive architecture decisions across platform and infrastructure teams
- Lead the design and evolution of scalable, highly available AWS cloud infrastructure
- Build and operate production systems with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and cost efficiency
- Design and manage cloud networking (VPN, VPC, routing, DNS, load balancing, secure connectivity)
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and automate provisioning and operations
- Troubleshoot complex issues across distributed systems, including networking and performance bottlenecks
- Apply security best practices and support the ISO 27001 compliance frameworks
- Improve observability, CI/CD pipelines, and overall operational maturity
- Mentor engineers in Cloud Services and influence Cloud Ops best practices across the org
Skills
- Minimum of 12 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or 10 years and a master's degree; or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines
- Strong Infrastructure as Code skills – for example in Docker, Packer/Ansible and Terraform/Terragrunt
- Strong understanding of AWS services and underlying technologies such as AWS IAM service and managing Kubernetes as a service (AWS EKS) including managing zero-downtime upgrades and debugging issues with deployments, controllers, etc. Deployed in the cluster
- Strong understanding of computer networks: TCP/IP protocols, IP block allocation across an organization, Routing and VPN protocols, AWS networking: VPCs, Transit Gateways, Customer Gateways, VPNs, flow logs, security groups, NACLs, etc., Cloudflare networking experience
- Understanding of issues facing ML deployments including model training and inference challenges
- Ability to communicate with a variety of teams including IT, Computational Scientists, Software Developers, Cloud Ops and ML engineers
