Trader / Investment Analyst
Balanced Rock Investment Advisors is a Boston-based fee-only wealth management and financial planning firm with a focus on values-based investing. We are a small, growing fiduciary firm and we are hiring a Trader / Investment Analyst to take ownership of trade execution and portfolio analytics across our client accounts. Responsibilities:
- Execute equity, ETF, mutual fund, and fixed-income trades using Orion Eclipse, our order management system.
- Run model-based rebalances, raise cash for distributions, invest new contributions, and conduct tax-loss harvesting.
- Coordinate with Charles Schwab, our primary custodian, on trade settlement, corrective trades, ACATs, journals, and money movement.
- Monitor portfolios for drift, allocation breaches, concentration risk, restricted holdings, and tax-sensitive positions.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research on securities, ETFs, mutual funds, and managers consistent with our values-based investment guidelines.
- Reconcile holdings and performance data in Orion and assist with client performance reporting.
- Support compliance, including best execution review, trade allocation, personal trading, and books-and-records requirements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline trading workflows, reduce operational risk, and document procedures.
Qualifications:
- Several years’ experience in a trading, operations, or analyst role at an RIA, broker-dealer, or asset manager.
- Hands-on experience with Orion Eclipse (or comparable OMS/rebalancer) and with Charles Schwab as custodian (or comparable institutional custodian).
- Series 65 license required at time of hire, or must be obtained within 60 days.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, economics, accounting, math, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Advanced Excel; strong attention to detail; clear written and verbal communication.
- Progress toward CFA, CFP®, or comparable industry credentials is a plus.
- Exposure to Python, SQL, or VBA for automating analysis and quality-control checks is a plus.
Schedule and Location: Full-time, Monday to Friday. Primarily remote with a minimum of 1 day per week at our office in the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston. During onboarding and training, additional in-office days per week may be required. Compensation: Salary of $70,000 – $80,000 depending on experience and qualifications, plus an annual bonus opportunity.
