[Remote] Staff AI Engineer - Healthcare startup
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Bowden Brown is a fast-growing healthtech company seeking a Staff AI Engineer to build AI-native software that improves patient care. The role involves complete ownership of product features, leveraging AI tools, and building scalable systems to enhance healthcare workflows.
Responsibilities
- Own products and features end-to-end, from idea through production
- Build scalable backend services using Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL and event-driven architecture
- Leverage AI coding agents throughout the development lifecycle to dramatically increase productivity while maintaining engineering quality
- Prototype new product ideas and rapidly turn the best concepts into production features
- Design scalable cloud-native systems running on AWS
- Shape architecture, engineering standards and technical direction across the platform
- Mentor other engineers while remaining deeply hands-on
Skills
- 10+ years building production software
- Senior or Staff-level engineering experience with deep backend expertise
- AI-native mindset, using coding agents daily as part of your development workflow
- Passion for exploring the latest AI coding tools and developer productivity platforms
- Experience building AI products, agentic systems or LLM-powered applications
- Strong Python and distributed systems experience
- Product-minded engineer who enjoys taking ideas from zero to production
- High-energy builder who thrives in fast-moving environments
- Active contributor to engineering communities and stays ahead of emerging AI tooling
- Healthcare experience is a plus, but not essential
